HRF New Resident

Thank you for showing an interest in our Neighbourhood Watch

In 2013 crime (particularly house break-ins) in our area was rampant and action was needed to be taken by residents to aid SAPS and Allsound to bring the number of incidents under control. We, therefore, formed our Neighbourhood Watch.

We adopted the traditional approach, of NHW members patrolling in cars during the evening and nighttime hours, which proved to be very successful and resulted in a significant drop in criminal activity.

However, success often brings complacency, and our patroller numbers slowly dwindled

In 2016/17 Crime once again was out of control and so we adopted a different strategy. 5 CCTV cameras were installed at strategic points in our area, actively monitored by Allsound Security from 2200 until 0600 and recording permanently.

The cameras, in conjunction with patrolling, had an instant positive effect and led us to believe that CCTV cameras were the answer. We now have 30 cameras, the majority equipped with sophisticated Artificial Intelligence software which provides a proactive approach to crime. Potential criminals, sometimes in possession of housebreaking equipment, are picked up in the early hours by our cameras and investigated by Allsound patrols. They are then removed from our area or handed over to SAPs. Recordings have also helped in the identification and evidence.

WE NOW HAVE ONE OF THE LOWEST CRIME RATES IN KNYSNA

New and replacement cameras, maintenance and repairs, and Allsound monitoring all cost money. Initially, we had grants from the municipality and donations from local businesses and residents. Once Municipality finance dried up, it was obvious we would need an alternative source of income. Consequently, the NHW Crimewatch Membership was introduced. For a modest contribution (R690 for 2022) residents become Crimewatch Members and enjoy several benefits including:

  1. Crimewatch Whatsapp Group with real-time crime information.
  2. Access to camera recordings after an incident
  3. Linking your alarm to the camera system
  4. Safety and Security tips from the professionals
  5. Quarterly Newsletters keep you abreast of all security issues
